Dormant Trade Skills employs experienced tradespeople as Trade Mentors to teach and supervise young adults on real maintenance work.
This is not a voluntary or informal role. Trade Mentors are employed to deliver work to a proper standard while supporting Trade Associates to develop practical skills, confidence, and work readiness.
The programme is designed to respect professional experience, provide clear boundaries, and support mentors to focus on what they do best.
As a Trade Mentor, you are responsible for delivering real maintenance work while teaching Trade Associates through demonstration, supervision, and guided practice.
Your role includes:
You are not expected to provide unpaid support, informal counselling, or take responsibility beyond the scope of the role.
This structure protects mentors, learners, customers, and funding partners.
Many people learn best by doing. By embedding training into real maintenance work, Trade Mentors are able to pass on skills that cannot be learned in classrooms or simulated environments.
This approach allows you to teach judgement, standards, and working habits alongside technical skills — the things that matter most on real jobs.
If you are an experienced tradesperson interested in a professional role teaching others through real work, we welcome an initial conversation.
