You have spent years learning how work should be done properly. Dormant Trade Skills gives you a way to pass that knowledge on without going back to full-time site work.
As a Trade Mentor, your role is to guide, supervise and teach young Trade Associates on suitable real maintenance jobs.
Trade Mentors are responsible for setting standards, explaining tasks, supervising safe working, checking quality and helping young people build confidence.
Your role includes:
You are not there to rush through jobs as fast as possible. You are there to make real work understandable, safe and useful as a training environment.
This role may suit experienced builders, carpenters, plumbers, decorators, maintenance workers, site managers or practical multi-skilled tradespeople who still have knowledge to offer.
It may be especially suitable if you are semi-retired, reducing your hours, no longer want the stress of running every job yourself, or simply want your skills to mean something beyond the next invoice.
This structure protects mentors, learners, customers, and funding partners.
Many people learn best by doing. By embedding training into real maintenance work, Trade Mentors are able to pass on skills that cannot be learned in classrooms or simulated environments.
This approach allows you to teach judgement, standards, and working habits alongside technical skills — the things that matter most on real jobs.
If you are an experienced tradesperson who would like to pass on your skills through paid, purposeful work, we would like to hear from you.
Dormant Trade Skills connects experienced tradespeople with young adults who want to learn trade skills as a practical route into work — delivering paid training, real maintenance jobs, and measurable outcomes.
