Not everyone learns best in a classroom. Some people need to be shown, trusted, supported and given the chance to prove what they can do.
Dormant Trade Skills gives young adults a practical route into work through paid, supervised maintenance activity with experienced Trade Mentors.
Who this programme is for
The Trade Associate role is for young adults who:
- Are aged 18 or over
- Want to work with their hands and learn practical skills
- Prefer learning by doing rather than classroom study
- Are looking for a realistic route into employment
You do not need qualifications or previous trade experience. What matters is willingness to learn, reliability, and turning up ready to work.
HOW YOU WILL LEARN
Learning on real jobs
You will learn by taking part in real tasks under supervision. That can help you build practical skills, confidence, routine, teamwork, communication and evidence of what you can do on site. The aim is to help you move closer to work, training or a next step that fits you. |
- You learn by watching, practicing, and being guided on site
- All work is supervised and taught step by step
- You are supported to build skills at a realistic pace
- Safety and proper working methods are prioritised
You are never left to work alone or expected to know things you have not been taught.
WHAT YOU WILL GAIN

The focus is on helping you become ready for employment, not just completing a programme.
Support and expectations
You will not be expected to know everything on day one. Trade Mentors are there to explain, demonstrate, supervise and help you improve.
The work is structured, supported and designed to help you progress safely.
