DTS Maintenance Time allows suitable local property maintenance work to become part of a supervised training programme.
Experienced Trade Mentors lead the work, with young Trade Associates learning safely alongside them. The customer receives useful, properly supervised maintenance while helping create paid practical learning opportunities.
The best jobs are practical, manageable maintenance tasks where there is enough time and space for teaching. Examples may include basic repairs, decorating preparation, minor joinery, simple external maintenance, ventilation-related works and other suitable property tasks.
Every job is assessed before acceptance so that it is safe, appropriate and genuinely useful as a training opportunity.
All work is assessed for suitability and carried out under supervision to ensure quality and safety.
DTS Maintenance Time is mentor-led. That means work may be delivered differently from a standard contractor visit. The purpose is not just to complete a task, but to create a safe, structured learning environment while still delivering useful work.
A Trade Mentor remains responsible for supervision, quality control and deciding what is appropriate for Trade Associates to do.
The aim is simple: unlock useful work, create real training hours, and deliver visible community value.
There is no charity framing and no compromise on safety or standards.
Dormant Trade Skills connects experienced tradespeople with young adults who want to learn trade skills as a practical route into work — delivering paid training, real maintenance jobs, and measurable outcomes.
